Website to Host Benefice Services

Coronavirus (Covid-19)

The Benefice of Carlton & Drax

The Benefice of Haddlesey, Hambleton & Birkin

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement of 23rd March, the Archbishops wrote to clergy in support of the measures   This support was repeated  on 27 March,  Our churches are now closed both for private worship and public services and we look for ways to enable our church communities to continue to engage at this difficult and challenging time in the life of the nation and the world.

The Website of The Church of St Mary, Hambleton is now being used to enable access to all worship material together with Services which will take place for the foreseeable future. Services will be led by Revd Anna Burr; Revd Becky Allright or Janys Cliff, our Lay Reader here in Hambleton.

A new Menu Tab ‘Benefice Services’ has been added to our Main Menu found at the top right of our screen.

Benefice Services Menu

Using that menu will allow access to all worship material and Services. Occasionally Services may be more ‘specific’ to either Benefice, but we encourage you to join those as well.

‘Hovering’ over The Top Menu ‘BENEFICE SERVICES‘ will cause the ‘BENEFICE SERVICE’ Menu to appear and in turn that will reveal the two subsequent menu’s.

CLICKING on The Top Menu will reveal the Benefice Services Page where all such Services will be presented in a selectable list. Clicking on Benefit Service will reveal the next ‘posted’ Service.

Revd Becky’s Mid Week Reflections are available through the ‘Carlton and Drax’ Menu.

An experience to share

Friday 20th March 2020 – 10am

As we all deal with the necessary changes to the way we must live for the months to come and the implications of  ‘Social distancing‘; for the first time in five days I walked, ever conscious of the advice with which we all should comply.  I took my camera; in truth I’m not certain why.   As I stood looking around and at the village and community in which I have lived for over 35 years, I understood.

My camera provided the means and LiveLent the quiet peace of mind.

For years The Hough was covered in Scots Pines and Larch – a ‘wooded mound’ perched at the bottom of the Vale of York.  They were cut down to be replaced by native broadleaf trees of past times. Now planted in great numbers tips of green are beginning to appear as nature springs eternal.  As they grow, so the view will diminish and change.

Please enjoy my view from the top of Hambleton Hough and click here to watch the video on YouTube.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) – What we are doing

[Last updated: Wednesday 1st March 2022]

We are being Guided by The Church of England which is examining the latest advice from Government and Public Health England and we will update our website as is necessary.

Face Coverings

We hope you will wish to respect our continuing efforts to keep all who visit us safe.     Whilst  there is no longer a legal requirement to wear a face covering in any setting,  the Guidance is that  face coverings are worn in crowded and enclosed spaces where you may come into contact with other people you do not normally meet.

St Mary’s is pleased to welcome you to our regular worship on Sundays. We hope you will wish to respect our continuing efforts to keep all who visit us safe and will wear a face covering whilst entering and leaving the Church when requested to do so.

When preparing our building for re-opening we  undertook risk assessments in accordance with Guidance issued to us by The Church of England.  We will continue to review and assess for so long as the pandemic continues. Copies of the relevant documents are available here.  We are required to reconsider our assessments after each use of the building and therefore it may be that the assessment will change.   Whilst we are no longer required to keep records of visitors to assist NHS Trace and Track it will remain possible to register your attendance using the NHS Covid-19 App. The relevant Data Protection COVID-19 Privacy Notice is also available through the link.

Please click here to see the latest advice from the Church of England.
